Corrosion protection of process equipment, structural steel, buildings and facilities, and development of pressure relief branch pipes of vertical stacks and equipment made of structural polymeric materials
Primary equipment subjected to corrosion protection is reservoirs, tanks, cleaning complexes, numerous types of loading and column facilities (from electroplating and pickling baths to sulfuric-acid columns, scrubbers, oil products drums and toxic liquid tanks), structural steel of buildings and facilities, gas ducts, pipelines, vertical flue pipes and vents.
Conventional lining materials as well as advanced film, paint, and laminate materials, and non-metallic structural polymeric materials, reflecting the most recent domestic and foreign scientific developments are applied in engineering and project design to ensure corrosion protection against highly aggressive media.
Design documentation for polymeric self-leveling floors being developed by LLC “Giprogazoochistka-Engineering” is worth mentioning. Polymeric self-leveling floor –is a prospective type of seamless floor coating particularly effective at large space areas with exclusive standards in respect of hygienic, operating and esthetic properties of coating. Continuous floors are made on the basis of liquid-viscous polymeric compounds: epoxy, ester, polyurethane, liquid rubber.
At present, application of the following corrosion-resistant polymeric laminated materials is potentially productive for gas relief branches of vent pipes and stacks, process equipment and gas ducts: glass epoxy and glass polyester, carbon fiberglass plastic and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic based on combined epoxy-phenolic binding materials, thermosetting materials based on filled phenol-formaldehyde compositions (faolite).
LLC “Giprogazoochistka-Engineering” experience in application of structural chemically resistant polymeric materials has shown their benefits compared to conventional corrosion protection of steel equipment. Consumption of materials is being reduced, maintenance-free operation is being increased.
High maintenance ability is ensured by high chemical resistance and strength of materials.
Service life of gas relief branches made of laminated plastics exceeds 25 years. At the present time, over 300 pipes with gas relief branches of 1.2 m - 7.0 m diameter and up to 200 m high, which are made of laminated plastic based on faolite and fiberglass plastic, have been installed and operating at different enterprises in various climatic zones of the country.
The examples of efficient fiberglass plastic application are as follows:
- installation of two-branch stacks Æ=2.8 m, H=100 m for sulfur recovery units at mining and processing plant of Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works that were designed by OJSC “Giprogazoochistka”;
- implementation by OJSC “Giprogazoochistka” of unique design for this plant consisting of installation of scrubbers, knock-out drums, and pure gas ducts made of chemically resistant structural fiberglass plastic. Scrubber dimensions: Æ=6.2 m, H=22.4 m. As a result, all process chain – scrubbers, gas ducts, knock-out drums, and exhaust pipes were made of home chemically resistant fiberglass plastic and are now efficiently operated.
Now, LLC “Giprogazoochistka-engineering” develops all complex of vessels and column equipment made of chemically resistant fiberglass plastic and operating in highly corrosive medium (hydrochloric acid and wet chlorine gas) at increased temperatures up to 120oС for OJSC “Russian magnesium”
